    The Healthy Bites Small Animal range is suitable for herbivorous animals such as Degus.

    In summary, Degu feeding requirements are such that they are herbivorous and cannot process free sugars due to their differing insulin structure.

    The Healthy Bites for Small Animals range are free from “free sugar” ingredients such as sugar, molasses and syrups and do not contain animal origin ingredients. Therefore they are suitable for herbivorous animals such as Degus.

    The feeding guide will be somewhere between hamster and rat sizes, you will be best placed to decide this depending on your pets size.

    Is it ok to give my pet multiple different types of VETIQ treats?

    Full Question: I am giving my pet 3 types of VETIQ treats, e.g. VETIQ Intestinal Aid Treats, VETIQ Hip and Joint Treats, and VETIQ Flea and Tick Treats. Is it ok to give them the recommended amount of treats for each treat type when combined?

    Yes, it is possible to give your pet each of these treat types together.

    They all have different ingredients present for the various functions, so to get the beneficial effect for each area, you will need to give them the suggested dosage for the pets size for each treat type.

    However, what you need to consider then is how much of their daily calorie intake is being delivered through treats, and reduce their food calorie intake slightly to take this into account.

    Is the ingredient 'clove leaf oil' that is present in the healthy bites Denti care product for cat’s toxic?

    Cats’ physiology is different to humans and even dogs and in certain circumstances they can be classed as more sensitive to certain substances.

    This is due to the lack of specific enzymes in their liver which means there can be a build-up of some ingested substances. We survey research papers on a regular basis as we need to base our decisions on scientific studies. There is not a lot of verified information available in this area unfortunately, but the most informative is a 2021 study which states some oils such as tea tree, some citrus oils, evergreen, lavender etc with reported toxicity which we do not use for cats. Clove oil is not amongst the oils listed. It is also worth noting that Clove oil is an additive that is permitted for cats by the EU, and, the FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines 2024 does not list Clove Oil as toxic for cats.
